Fibre Mood Madeline Skirt
I’m back with another fibre mood make! Every time I see a bias cut skirt float around I daydream about possibly making one. I love the idea of a fancy, curve skimming skirt paired with casual tees and tanks. When the new Fibre Mood issue came out I was so excited to see a bias cut skirt pattern and finally get to try it!
The skirt is called the Madeline. It is a super quick and easy make with only two pattern pieces! All together I probably finished it in just under an hour.
I cut a 34 waist graded to a 36 at the hip but ended up taking it in about 3/8″ at the waist. It’s still a little loose fitting, and I’m actually debating letting it back out and putting in an elastic casing instead of the zipper. My invisible zipper doesn’t lay so great with the bias cut at the side seams. This might be because my fabric is so lightweight.
This fabric was from my stash, actually destashed to me from my friend Victoria. I believe it is a viscose blend of some sort. Super light weight, super drape-y, DREAMY for this type of skirt. I decided to have some fun with it and add some tiny pom-pom trim at the hem. I think that maybe the trim changes the drape a bit but I still love the way it looks.
I took about 5″ off the hem before even cutting my fabric. I judged this by just holding the pattern up to my body before cutting. I feel like I could maybe loose 1 more inch but overall it looks pretty good.
Overall I’m pretty happy with this make, however I’m not 100% positive this skirt is my style. I think it might be one of those things I love more on other people than myself. Or perhaps the skirt isn’t quite as flow-y as I would have liked. I am going to give it a try and let it live in the wardrobe rotation for a while before I go crazy and hack it into something else lol.
Be sure to check out all the other amazing patterns out with this month’s issue of Fibre Mood!
