Easy Soft Winged Eyeliner Tutorial

Tools and materials:

• Angled liner brush
• Eyeliner
• Sharpener
• Mascara
• False lashes

Sharpen your pencil, then take an angled liner brush and run the bristles along the eyeliner to coat them. Then look down into a mirror, place the brush at the root of your eyelashes on the outer edge first and start pulling the color upwards. You want to pull from the lash line up to create that soft finish. 

If you drag the brush from left to right, you will create more of a solid line which is exactly what we want for the wing. Doing the left-to-right motion creates more of a defined finish. But we want a soft finish along the root of the eyelashes so there you need to pull the color upwards. 

Use the very tip of the bristles on the inner corner of the eye and just work it backward and forward very softly. Use a really light hand to almost stamp the color on because this is the area that you want it to be the thinnest. You could have a little cotton bud or a q-tip to hand so that if you do do a left or right swiping motion and it looks too harsh, you can just use your cotton bud over the top to soften it.

As you can see on my left eye in the picture when I look straight on it's so soft but it is there. Go for a long-wearing eyeliner as generic eyeliners do tend to smudge throughout the day, they are soft they usually need setting in place but this one does not move. I've opted for a brown because I find it to be the softest flattering shade. You can adjust the depth of brown depending on your skin tone or even go for black.

If your eyes are slightly differently shaped from one another, you just need to adjust the shape slightly on either eye. Most people's eyes are sisters, not twins and so they’re not identical. You can also go back in with the eyeliner once your mascara is on to even them up.

When drawing a winged eyeliner a rule of thumb is that the trajectory of your wing is to follow on from the lower eyelash line. The higher you go, the more lifted the eye will look. I prefer not to go too high because I like a bit more of an almond shape.

This is how it looks with a little coat of mascara. Mascara makes the actual lash line itself look a little bit fuller because it creates a shadow behind the lashes.

And then again if you pop on some eyelashes you can still see that really soft smoky wing behind. It's very subtle but it's still very softly visible from behind.
