Tools and materials:

  • Clear hair elastics
  • Small/medium claw clip
  • Flat iron
  • Hairspray
  • Bobby pins

Linked faux braid

1. Make a ponytail

Pull the top portion of your hair back and pull it into a ponytail using a clear, hair elastic and pull it tightly. Leave out face-framing hair if you’d like.

Temporarily clip the ponytail portion up and out of the way with a claw clip.

2. Make another small ponytail

Create another small ponytail, about 1.5” thick, below the first. Smooth the sides out above your ears and secure it in the back with another clear elastic.

3. Split the 1st, lift the 2nd and create a 3rd ponytail

Release the hair from the clip and split the top ponytail.

Pull the 2nd ponytail up and temporarily clip that out of the way with the claw clip.

Grab another section of hair above the ears, including the split ponytail, and secure a 3rd ponytail with another clear elastic.

4. Repeat

Release the clip and repeat the same steps until you run out of new hair to add.

5. Split and tie the tails

Once you’re left with just the ends of the ponytail, split the ponytail and tie it underneath the previous ponytail. Repeat this until you reach the end.

6. Finishing touches

The key to making this elegant hairstyle look great is adding body. Hold the linked braid with one hand and use the other to puff out the sections on each side.

Tie off the bottom 2 ponytails so they don’t split apart.

If you left out bangs, use a flat iron to curl them away from your face and give them more shape.

Apply hairspray to the front and back to tame flyaways and keep everything in place.

Twisted braid hairstyle

1. Twist a 1” section of hair and secure it

Starting toward the back, crown section of your hair, twist a 1” section on the back of your head.

Creating a twisted braid hairstyle

Pull the twist apart to loosen it and then stick a bobby pin into it, to hold it in place.

2. Split a 1” section and make a rope braid

Grab another 1” section in front of the first twist. Split it and twist each half across the other like a rope braid. Add another small chunk of hair to it to help lock this to your head.

Creating a twisted braid hairstyle

Pinch the sections to add some body and then use a bobby pin to secure it to your head.

Repeat with another section, right in front of the last, pull the sections for body and bobby pin it to your head.

Half-up, half-down hairdo

1. Curl your hair

Use a 1” curling wand to curl your hair.

You can use a traditional curling iron, but I love the softness of these curling wand curls!

2. Apply hairspray

Apply hairspray. Then use your fingers to comb them. If you’re getting ready early, wait to finger-comb your hair until later in the day. Apply another coat of hairspray after finger-combing.

3. Make a 3-strand braid with a small section from the crown

Leave out your face-framing hair and collect a small section of hair from the back of your crown.
