How to Be Chic & Practical

Pinterest is full of stunning, fashionable outfit inspiration abundant with stiletto heels and luxury bags but the majority of us don't have lifestyles to match that aesthetic - yet! A constant dilemma in my life is how to look stylish when doing such mundane things as walking the dog, working from home or doing the chores. Even if no one sees me, I want to look good for myself!

I have since learnt that a light-coloured Burberry trenchcoat is not ideal for dog walks, but otherwise, this outfit works well! I know that a light knit top tucked into a high-waisted skirt flatters my figure well so it has become one of my signature looks. If it's not a muddy dog walk, a pair of mules or sandals work well with this outfit.

For muddier dog walks, I would opt for a longer skirt to hide my wellies as much as possible!

In colder months, I take a style tip from my weekend in Berlin and keep the basis of my outfit neutral with a statement coat on top. I love this dark green one from Ted Baker. Although it adds colour, it is also a dark enough green that it almost works as a neutral since it's quite close to black. I also think green is quite a versatile colour since it appears so much in nature, it must go with everything!

A plaid scarf like this Burberry one also adds interest and elevates the look. And of course, I've got my wellies!

Back to hot weather! Is there anything more glamorous yet practical than a floppy straw hat? You look like a mysterious, elegant rich lady, all while keeping your head and face protected from the sun.

Slogan hats are my favourite but there are so many styles out there for you to choose from. In my opinion, the bigger the hat, the better!

Much like sunhats, sunglasses add instant glamour to your outfit, automatically making you look expensive and chic. I always say you only need 2 pairs of sunglasses in your wardrobe (1 black, 1 tortoiseshell) as these will go with every outfit you own. Of course, if you are a huge sunglasses fan, you might also want a retro white pair, or a fun star-shaped pair, or whatever you fancy! But if you are aiming for a capsule wardrobe, 2 pairs to go with dark and light outfits are more than suitable.

Countryside walks can be hard to navigate in hot weather - you don't want to bake but you also don't want your pretty summer clothes ruined. I therefore lean towards dresses in dark colours, such as this Jack Wills one that I found on Vinted. Pair with a red lip to instantly look more stylish.
