Styling Unwashed Hair: Braided Ponytail

The pandemic was the perfect time to "train" my hair. Which basically means I stopped washing it everyday and allowed for my natural oils to adjust to the change. Every time you shampoo your hair you're stripping away natural oils that help the scalp and you end up producing more oils which in turn makes your hair oilier.

So when you "train" your hair you go longer between washes and use those natural oils to build a healthier scalp and head of hair.

With that said... the beginning of this training process is a bit difficult because your hair looks oily and you don't know how to style it. This is my #1 go-to look the braided ponytail. You can see my hair looks a little oily already.

Step 1:

Split your hair with the line going ear to ear. You want the top half to be a much smaller portion and the back to be the majority of your hair.

Step 2:

Put the back half into a ponytail and move aside & split the front half.

Depending on my outfit is how I split it (sometimes I part straight down the middle and sometimes I do a side part)

Step 4:

Braid each piece TIGHTLY and tie at the bottom with small mini rubber bands.

Here I have both sides braided

Step 5:

Smooth out the back half and put it into a nice ponytail.

Step 6:

Grab the first braid and pull back and wrap around your ponytail then do the same thing to the second braid.

WALA!

This is the finished look! It's super quick and simple.

Every time I style my hair like this I get alot of compliments and it helps my hair not get oily. It's also a good style for unwashed hair because it tames it all down.
