How to Make Solid Body Scrub

Since it's the middle of winter and thus dry skin season, which means I need to give my skin a little extra love. That means exfoliating and using more luxe lotions and butters.

I'm all for saving time, so I like to use a solid sugar scrub recipe that does dual purpose. It is part soap, so it cleans the skin. It's also part sugar scrub to exfoliate the skin.

This is an easy recipe, even for beginners. It's one of the recipes in the February 2023 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box.

If you like making body scrubs, check out my printable Body Scrubs recipe book. It has 30 easy recipes that you can make at home.

If you've been here a while, then you've seen several recipes from the Simply Earth recipe box. It's a monthly box for DIY natural home recipes.

Each month, you get 4 full sized bottles of essential oils plus supplies to make 6 easy recipes. The cost of the box is less than the cost of the oils, plus you get great extras!

I love the box because I get to try new recipes, and I love how they give you information about the oils each month.

The February box has:

You'll use these ingredients to make a roller bottle, massage oil, heart soap, cleansing shave soap, diffuser blend, and a sugar scrub soap bar recipe.

What is a Solid Sugar Scrub?

A solid body scrub is both a sugar scrub and a soap. It's made by adding melt and pour soap to a sugar scrub so that it gets firm and forms bars.

I like them because they both cleanse and exfoliate at the same time. They are also easy to make and easy to use.

Tips for Making Solid Sugar Scrub Recipe

Here are some tips to help you make your solid sugar scrub recipe:

  • You can use either clear or white melt and pour soap. I used a shea butter melt and pour soap.
  • You can use your choice of carrier oil. I used sweet almond oil, but you can also use avocado oil for a heavier oil or fractionated coconut oil for a lighter oil. Learn more about carrier oils and their benefits to choose one.
  • I like to use smaller molds for a scrub soap for body because I don't use them all the time. You can also use a larger mold.
  • A solid body scrub can get hard while you're mixing it and make it difficult to pour. If this happens, simply heat it for about 10 seconds and then stir and pour.
  • Be careful not to overheat the soap. The sugar will dissolve, and your sugar scrub soap bars won't be as abrasive.
  • I used mica to color my scrub soap bar recipe. Adding a colorant is optional. You an also use soap colorant.
  • I used a blend of essential oils from Simply Earth from the box. To promote skin health, try Bumps and Boo Boos or Beauty Within.
