What to Wear for a Summer Weekender
If your summer is slipping past and you haven't had any big vacations, you can still get in a weekend getaway. We decided to book a weekend by the lake, which, of course, meant planning some outfits.
In summer, looking cool when it's hot outside is challenging. When traveling, you also have to think about footwear for lots of walking and sightseeing. And since you'll be eating all of your meals out, you'll want to pack something a little dressy.
Here's how I packed for our quick summer holiday.
Elevated Shorts and T-Shirt
Of course, you'll take shorts and T-shirts with you on your summer weekend, but why not make them a little more interesting? Add a colorful duster kimono on top to make that outfit go from looking like everyone else to fabulous! A light, extra layer will still keep you cool but provides coverage for your shoulders and arms if you start getting too much sun (don't forget to pack your SPF sunscreen!) and when you go into places blasting super-cold air conditioning. Pair the outfit with a straw tote for shopping around town and some good walking flats for sightseeing. Shop duster kimono.
Separates Instead of a Dress
Your go-to for a summer trip might be a cute summer dress, but I like to pack separates that can be mixed and matched to create more outfits if needed. You can't go wrong with a crisp white sleeveless button-down top, which always looks polished, and a midi skirt in a summery print. You can always pair the top with shorts, and the skirt with a T-shirt for two more looks. This is perfect for restaurants to look a little more chic than having dinner in the shorts you wore while running around all day. Be sure to pack a cute clutch purse and some easy block-heel mule sandals. Shop floral midi skirt.
Loungewear for Anywhere
Oh, we love the loungewear we wear at home; it's so soft and comforting. So take it with you! You'll be happy you have your trusty hoodie and sweatpants when hanging around the hotel room or to wear during long travel days in a car or airplane. You can also wear it for spontaneous hikes or other sporty activities you find to do on your trip. I love to take my slip-on Skechers or Toms shoes anywhere I go. They're perfect for going down for continental breakfast, doing a lot of walking on sightseeing days, going through airport security and wearing as slippers in the hotel room. Then, pack up everything in your favorite backpack. Shop slip-on shoes.
Now that you know what to wear for a summer weekender, where will you go?
