Hey, guys. Today, I’m going to show you how to apply hair wax color to my naturally curly hair. This temporary hair color wax is a huge craze on Instagram, so I jumped on it and I honestly really like it. So, let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Mofajang hair color wax
  • Spray bottle
  • Curl cream
  • Defining gel
  • Hair oil
  • Hair dryer
Wear an old t-shirt

1. Put on clothes you don’t mind getting dirty

I’m wearing white to show off the messiness of the wax, but I really don't recommend wearing something cute to do it because it's gonna get messed up, so make sure you’re wearing something you’re not afraid to mess up.

Styling hair

2. Style as usual

Next, style your hair with your favorite hair products. You can put whatever products you want underneath the wax. I suggest doing your favorite wash-and-go routine before you put the wax on. It’s best to apply the wax to damp hair, so I spray my hair with my handy dandy water bottle, especially my ends because those are the driest parts.

Applying curl cream to wet hair

Then, I take my curl cream and just apply it to my soaking wet hair in sections. I really work it in there, especially my ends since they’re extremely dry.

Adding defining gel through hair

After it’s worked in, I take a little bit of a defining gel and just put it lightly throughout my hair for some extra hold. Then let your hair dry until it’s about 70% dry before you start adding the wax. I find it’s more vibrant when you wait until your hair is a little bit dry as opposed to being soaking wet.

Mofajang hair color wax

While we wait, let’s introduce the product. The hair color wax we’re going to be using is the Mofajang hair color wax. With each jar, you can get about four uses if you have really thick hair, and they do a really good job with vibrancy.

There are some ingredients I don’t agree with, like alcohol and hydrogen peroxide, so if your hair is really sensitive to those two, I don’t recommend using this. Other than that, for a temporary product, the ingredients really aren’t that bad. The box mentions that this temporary hair color wax doesn’t hurt the hair, it has a natural setting, it’s water-soluble, non-greasy, matte, smells fresh, and brings a significant, unique personality.

No color run on pillowcase

I agree with everything it says and also would add that it doesn’t transfer at all! Once it dries, it dries until you add water. Here’s a pillowcase I slept on and, as you can see, there’s no color and I haven’t washed it at all. I kept mine in for two days and it didn’t rub off on anything. The hair color can actually last up to a week if you treat your hair well.

3. Prepare your wax

For this look, I’m going for an icy purple look, so I’m mixing two parts red and one part blue to get the violet color I want.

Applying first temporary hair color wax

4. Apply the first color

Section your hair and just grab some wax. It washes off with water, so you don’t have to worry about wearing gloves. Rub it into your hands and put it all throughout your hair. This feels just like you’re applying a hair cream. It’s super creamy and I love it.

Wiping off hair color wax from skin

If you get a little on your skin, just wipe it off. It won’t stain or anything.

Applying second temporary hair color wax

5. Add the second color

Let the wax dry down for about 20 minutes before adding the next color. I’m going to be adding blue at the bottom to create an ombre effect.

Applying hair color to the inside of hair

Make sure to get the inside as well so nothing is mixed.

Drying hair with blow dryer

6. Dry

I’m just using a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.

Adding hair oil to roots

7. Add hair oil

My hair’s looking a little flat, so I’m just using Moroccan oil and Jamaican black castor oil and I’m just massaging that into my roots to boost my hair up to where I need it to be.

Spreading hair oil down throughout hair

I also spread it throughout my hair. This will help break the cast and soften up your hair. It can cause a little flaking, but if you don’t mess with it, it’ll be fine.

Adjusting hair color

8. Adjust

I wanted a bigger ombre effect, so I added more color. Adding it to dry hair can make your curls a bit misshapen and stringy, though. Remember not to apply too close to the hairline, because it can be annoying to take off.

Final hair color look

Here’s the finished look! I’m so blown away. It looks like I actually dyed my hair. It doesn’t look chalky and it’s really soft to the touch. There’s nothing bad I can say about this product, so get your hands on it! It’s a really cool alternative if you want to experiment with color, but don’t want to deal with bleaching and the upkeep. Let me know down below which color you’d want to try!
