Abstract Leopard Print Top Using Iron-on Scraps
If you are anything like me, you can’t throw out any leftover scraps, saving them up in the hope of creating something at a later date. Some iron-on brands can be expensive so you don’t want to waste any material if you can help it. Here I show you how to create a stylish abstract leopard print t-shirt upcycle that will add a pop of colour to your wardrobe.
What You Will Need
- Iron-on Scraps
- Plain T-Shirt
- Heat Press or Iron
- Scissors
How to Make
Choose some coordinating or contrasting iron-on scraps, it is completely up to you. I chose some glitter scraps in pink, blue, and gold. I started cutting them into random abstract shapes. Take a plain t-shirt and iron it to remove all the creases, place your leopard print iron-on pieces on the t-shirt around the neckline. When you are happy you can iron the pieces down following the instructions for your brand of iron-on. Peel off the protective covers but keep them to one side for the next step.
Next layer contrasting shapes on top of the pieces you have already stuck down. Once happy with the placement, cover the original shapes with the protective covers you removed, this will protect your exposed iron-on from your heat source. Heat again and then remove the protective covers from the design.
I went back and added small abstract pieces of silver iron-on to fill the spaces in-between my leopard print shapes.
Depending on how much iron-on scraps you have left you can continue the leopard print collar around the back for an extra stylish design. If you aren’t keen on a leopard print style you could try a mix of different shapes or the randomly snip some designs and see what you end up with.
I really love this iron-on scraps DIY, it is a great way to use up any leftover material you have and you can have fun with an unlimited number of colour ways and designs, you don’t need any fancy tools to create these and it is a great way to try out iron-on material. You can go beyond t-shirts to decorate hoodies, bags, hats, scarves and more.
