DIY Cross Back Fringe Halter Top (No Sewing)

There are probably more ways to get creative with a basic scarf than many people realize. For instance, here’s an easy way to transform a basic scarf into a cute cross back halter top with fringe…with NO SEWING, of course. Let’s get started!

Full video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5UbmdyEf1s

Step 1: Gather Materials

What you’ll need:

  1. Fringed scarf https://amzn.to/2uR34oj
  2. Fabric scissors http://amzn.to/2lpapZM
  3. Elastic http://amzn.to/2lmq6QG
  4. Fabric glue http://amzn.to/2qor51E
  5. Binding tape http://amzn.to/2kuyYDU

Step 2: Wrap & Tie

Fold the scarf in half the long way and wrap it around your body with the folded side and the bottom. Tie it in a knot in the back.

Step 3: Mark & Cut Strap Holes

Use a pencil to mark spots on the front and back where the straps will be attached. Then cut very tiny slits at those spots.

Step 4: Attach Straps

Attach the elastic starting from the one of the back holes, looping diagonally through the front hole on the opposite side, across and through the other front hole, then diagonally down to the other back hole. Tie knots at each end to secure the elastic straps.

Note: You may need to measure the elastic beforehand to make sure the length is correct for your body.

Step 5: Cut Fringe & Add Binding Tape

Use fabric scissors to cut the fringe ends from the scarf. Then fabric glue the binding tape along the edges for a smooth finish.

Step 6: Add Fringe

Glue one of the fringe strips across the bottom of the halter top on the inside layer. Leave to dry for a few hours.

All done!

That’s all it takes to turn a scarf into this cross back halter top that rivals similar designs on some of today’s most popular clothing sites. You’ll be able to rock this DIY version and save money!

You are thrifty and unique. My daughters and granddaughters love it when you post because they know grandma is going to make them something new 😀
