Before throwing away your old, never-worn spaghetti strap tops, try following these simple steps to turn it into something MUCH cuter!

STEP ONE:

Cut a straight line across the top just below the arm hole.

STEP TWO:

Fold over the top (our newly cut edge) and straight stitch almost all the way around, leaving a 1-inch gap, and creating a tunnel on the inside of the top.

STEP THREE:

Using safety pins, push an elastic strip through the gap in tunnel until comes out on the other end of the gap. Stitch the two ends of the elastic strip together, ensuring the elastic isn't twisted.

STEP FOUR:

Create a Zig-Zag stitch along the bottom of the top, pulling the fabric to stretch it as it goes through the machine. This creates the adorable ruffle look at the bottom, known as a "lettuce hem"

STEP FIVE:

Show off your trend new top to the world!

And when people ask you where it's from, you can proudly reply, "I made it!"

Keeping our clothes out of landfill for as long as possible is one of the best thing we can do for the environment.

Making our own clothes from clothes we've already purchased is one of the best thing we can do for our wallets! Plus... these projects are fun!

Let me know how your lettuce hem top turn out.

Love,
