Chloe By Fibre Mood: A Classic Off the Shoulder Top

With the arrival of another Fibre Mood Link Party for the release of the June Fibre Mood 15 Pattern Magazine I thought it would be fun to continue the chiffon bow theme. When the pattern choices came out for this link party I was immediately drawn to the Chloe pattern.

This top is the perfect combination of summer style, chic design and of course..... a giant chiffon bow! How could I resist?

I wanted to create a lace version for my Chloe top which would mean I would need to adapt the pattern a little bit so it would include a lining. For my fabrics I chose a stunning stretch black lace from Zelouf Fabrics in New York , a very thin cotton Batik for the lining, a linen blend for the trim and of course a black chiffon for the bow.

Zelouf Fabrics has a huge selection of lace fabrics and many, many beautiful fashion fabrics. It is easy to order on line and I love that you can order samples so you know exactly what you are getting. This particular black lace fabric comes with a sheer selvage attached to the scallop so I used this edge as the bottom for my bodice. I simply trimmed away the selvage which left me with a lovely scalloped edge.

I attached the batik cotton lining once I had gathered the lace for the bodice. I attached the lace to one side of the trim, then basted the lining on top. This keeps it in place and allows the underside of the trim to fold over top of both layers which provides a neat finish on the inside of the top. I made the lining a little bit shorter so that it just scrims the scalloped edge of the bodice. If I want more of the top to be see through, I can simply tuck the lining in.

I attached the bow and gathered it as suggested in the pattern. It is such a nice way to finish off the top. I measured the chiffon strip and sewed it at 12" instead of 10" for a more dramatic bow. I also put a tiny anchor stitch underneath the bow on the back shoulder to prevent it from flopping forward. I only anchored the underneath layer so it wasn't visible from the top.

The top looks wonderful and will be a great addition to my summer wardrobe. It feels

elegant and is very comfortable to wear. It will be a very versatile addition to my wardrobe as it can be worn with shorts, skirts, a dressy pant and jeans. It will be fun to style it in a variety of ways with an assortment of shoes and accessories.

I look forward to making an unlined version in a fun viscose print for ultimate drape. It will look great in a cotton lawn or poplin for a more structured look as well and I think it would make a wonderful off the shoulder summer dress.

After all.... there is Sew Much To Design.

As Always Happy Sewing,

Lou Sheffer
