Fibre Mood Elisa Top

I was so excited to be asked to be a part of the link party for the new issue of Fibre Mood! I got to chose any pattern from their new issue and this Elisa top was just screaming my name!

If you haven’t heard of them before, Fibre Mood is a bi-monthly sewing magazine based in the Netherlands. Each magazine contains a collection of patterns available to either cut straight from the magazine or print as a pdf. What I love about this is when you choose the pdf option you are able to cut out only your pattern (most pattern magazines are overlapped all over each other) AND the PDF is layered, so you can print only your size! Their patterns have that unique, modern European vibe that’s always on trend!

I chose the Elisa Blouse from this collection because I love a notched collar and a deeper neckline. I’ve been wanting to make myself a sleeveless cropped tie button down for summer and this looked like the perfect place to start. Plus I really love the original silhouette of the pattern and knew I would revisit the sleeved, slightly longer version for the fall.

The pattern was really easy to sew. I love the simple instructions and style lines. Because of these, it came together really quickly. The notch collar can be a little tricky but if you’ve made one before you won’t have any problems. I cut the size XS and didn’t make any size adjustments. I love the slightly boxy fit.

To hack the pattern, I left off the sleeves and finished the armhole with bias tape. (I did my usual lowering of the armhole here.) For the tie crop, I added a couple inches to the hemline before cutting, then sewed up the top. Before sewing the hem, I tried the top on to see where I wanted the crop to hit. Then I folded the top in half at the center back so the side seams and front edges lined up and drew in my new hemline and dropped a steep curve in the front for the ties. I cut off the excess fabric. To finish it, I flipped the facing outwards so it was right sides together with the blouse and stitched along the curve, then clipped the corner at the front edge and pushed the ties right sides out. This way, the ties are finished on the inside as well. I hemmed the rest of the top with a 1/4″ seam allowance. I really love the way it turned out!

The fabric is a lovely cotton poplin from my stash that was offloaded to me by a designer I used to work for. I love the bright springy colors! And the crisp poplin is perfect for this sleeveless boxy top. I also used my white Tabitha Sewer buttons from her boho collection. I like how the subtle uneven-ness of the circle adds an extra touch of quirky vibes to the top. I just love the way it pairs perfectly with my vintage simplicity pants.
