Mr. Mike continues to support all of my sewing ventures. I have him to thank for many of my blog and Instagram pictures. As he is a fan of Formula 1 and we are planning to see the E Formula races later this year, I wanted to thank him for his ongoing support by creating a custom fit "Formula 1" shirt for the event.

When I saw this fabric on the Minerva website I knew it would be perfect! What better way to support him and create the perfect shirt for the occasion. I had already created a bespoke Men's Tropical Shirt pattern for him last year so it was ready to go. This particular pattern is Mike's favourite short sleeve style, I will use it often. For the specifics about the adaptations I made for him to the pattern you can see my original post here.

This fun fabric was really nice to work with. It is a 100% cotton poplin. A beautiful quality fabric with a medium weight it has a crisp, soft finish; perfect for shirts, dresses, tops and more. It is easy to sew and a dream to press. I chose the black background for this shirt, it also comes in a navy, royal blue and turquoise background. It is a woven, non-stretch fabric that comes in a narrowed width (110cm) I chose to carefully pattern match the car design on the front closure and the breast pocket. It takes more time, but the final product is "sew perfect". Details about how to pattern match can be found here.

The Men's Tropical Shirt Pattern is from Wardrobe By Me patterns. It is a casual button-up short-sleeved shirt with a convertible collar. The shirt sewing pattern has side slits, but I choose to sew my shirts without them. The double yoke is created with the burrito roll technique which is very fun to sew. The two back pleats and left front pocket add subtle polished details to the entire look. It has an extensive size range from 2XS-4XL

To achieve a perfect pocket and front bodice pattern matches you can read the details I previously posted here. It takes extra time to organize and layout the pattern pieces but the results are totally worth it and help to make your bespoke shirt even more custom.

I can't wait to post some pictures of Mike at the actual E Formula car event in early summer.

I wonder what my next "theme" shirt for Mike will be?

After all.... There is Sew Much To Design.
