I have very long, thick hair, which means I often use a lot of hair ties or elastics when I style it. But it’s so hard to get them out!

Pulling the hair ties out can do a lot of damage to your hair. Cutting them out isn’t much better. It’s easy to cut into your hair by mistake, especially when you can’t see the elastics except in a mirror.

So I’m really pleased I found this quick and easy solution.

Tools and materials:

  • Lemon essential oil
Lemon essential oil

1. Get some lemon essential oil

You’ll need some lemon essential oil. It’s not an expensive oil and is easily found.

Adding oil

2. Add a drop

The bottle it comes in usually allows you to use a drop at a time.

Hold the open bottle upside down directly on top of the hair tie and tap the base once to release a single drop.

Removing the tie

3. Remove the tie

Pull gently on the tie. It will break easily and you can slide it out of your hair, without damaging it.

Hair elastic hack

It takes just a few minutes to remove a lot of hair elastics with this hack. Smooth any excess oil into your hair.

It’s absorbed quickly and makes your hair smell great! Plus lemon oil is actually good for your hair, so you get two benefits in one.
