9-step Wednesday Addams Hair Tutorial
Whether you're a fan of the Addams Family or just love the gothic aesthetic, this tutorial is for you!
I'll walk you through the entire, step-by-step process to recreate this Wednesday Addams’ hair look, including a bang cutting hack, all at home!
We’ll take Wednesday Addams’ hairstyle and add some sophistication by emulating her bangs but swapping her signature pigtail braids.
Tools and materials:
- Hair straightener
- Paddle hair brush
- Wide tooth comb
- 2 alligator clips
- Packing tape
- Hair cutting shears
- Hair serum
1. Brush and part your hair
Brush your hair and part it with a wide tooth comb down the center.
2. Map out your bangs
Take your comb and balance it on the top of your head.
Wherever it lays flat, that’s the apex, and that’s the point where we will start the bangs.
Using your comb, bring the hair in front of the apex forward.
Grab the ends and twist to hold the hair in place.
Now, Wednesday’s bangs are wider than usual, so grab a bit more hair from the sides, at the end point of your brows and add the additional hair to what will become your bangs.
Then clip both sides to keep the hair from mixing.
3. Straighten the hair
To achieve even bangs, straighten the hair that you separated out. This smooth texture is crucial to ensure that your bangs are cut straight!
Turn your straightener to low heat since we will be styling the hair again later, and we don’t want to cement it down.
4. Apply the tape and cut
Cut about 4-5 inches of packing tape. Gather the hair and pinch it at the center, then wrap the tape piece around.
It should look like this, and here you can see the correct angle at which to hold the hair:
Take your shears and cut in the center of the tape.
Now my Wednesday Adams bangs are still too long, but look at this gorgeous angle!
5. Touch up your bangs
Comb the bangs with the teeth pointing up and hold toward the end. Then, snip vertically with your shears.
6. Style your bangs
If you have any broken pieces (see below) this is the time to tuck them in with everything else. If you try to style it individually, it will keep sticking up.
So, tuck any unruly pieces into the bangs, then grab the bangs together and give them a nice, gentle curl with the straightening iron.
7. Curl the rest of your hair
Clip up the top portion of your hair and begin curling the hair that’s left.
Put this styled hair behind your shoulders, putting the next section of hair that you want to work on in front of your shoulders.
Brush out the new section with a paddle brush.
If your hair is coarse, run the iron over for one pass to tame it.
Then curl the hair away from your face by twisting the hair all the way around and running the iron down the length of hair.
Once you are near the end, gently pull the hair out.
Then grab the next section and do the same process, but this time, curl toward your face.
Fully curled, the hair should look like this:
8. Loosen the curls
Now for the fun part–flip your hair over and shake your head to loosen the curls.
9. Add shine serum
Scrunch your hair with a bit of serum to add some shine to the textured look.
Snap twice, and our gorgeous, Wednesday Addams inspired hairstyle is complete!
