Here I’m going to show you how to make a whipped coconut oil body butter. It is tea-infused and also has ginger and lemongrass in it - all the good things. Let’s get started!

Tools and materials:

  • Coconut oil
  • Glass bowl
  • Spoon
  • Pot
  • Ginger
  • Lemongrass
  • Strainer
  • Electric whisk
  • Essential oil
Melting coconut oil

1. Melt the coconut oil

Put four heaped tablespoons of coconut oil in a bowl. Then melt the oil by placing the glass bowl in a pot of boiling water.

2. Add the other ingredients and boil

Once the coconut oil has melted, you’re going to add ginger and lemongrass. You can either go for fresh ingredients if you can get hold of them or otherwise go for the cheat option, which is a ginger and lemongrass teabag.

Leave the mixture on the heat for 25-30 minutes.

3. Strain the mixture

Next, strain the mixture. I didn’t have a strainer, so I made a DIY one using a net cloth, tied over a jar with a rubber band. I have just over 150ml (5 fl oz) of the oil.

Freezing the coconut oil

4. Freeze

Pour the oil into a bowl and put it in the freezer. It will only take about 30 minutes for the mixture to solidify.

5. Whisk the mixture

Next, you are going to whisk the mixture to make it nice and frothy.

6. Add essential oils

Next, add a few drops of essential oil; this will add even more to the scent. Then whisk the coconut oil one more time. Once done, transfer your whipped oil to a jar, and you are done. Store it in the fridge when you are not using it.
