Shop Your Closet: Glam Outfit Idea for the Holidays

Not to worry if you don’t have these exact pieces in your wardrobe. I’m sharing my picks as a starting point. Today we’ll be mimicking this chic look by fashion blogger, Wendy Nguyen.

Start by considering the overall style and genre of the look you’re aiming for. Here is our outfit inspiration:

1. Proportions 

Let’s think about the proportions of the outfit. The top is a sleek silhouette, cinched at the waist, while the bottom portion is full of volume. Also note the movement of her skirt. 

2. Texture 

She has also worked cleverly with textures. On top she has a velvet turtleneck paired with the layered, tulle skirt. The leather belt is an accent texture, patent leather shoes and a textured, black clutch. 

3. Color

Another trick is using a neutral color, as in the black details, to make the color in the rest of the outfit pop.

This is one reason why having lots of neutrals helps make the most of what you have when shopping your closet.

4. Accessories

Finally, her accessorizing is very minimal: black sunglasses, a metallic watch, and the clutch.

Now let’s put these principles to the test when shopping our closets!

As in the inspiration image, I chose black as my neutral base, via my black turtleneck.

My skirt is a similar color but it’s not tulle, which is perfectly ok because the crazy texture still pairs well with the sleek top. 

My accessories include a black, leather wrap belt, black patent pumps, a classic, black clutch, and my black sunnies!

As long as you keep the accessories minimal, you’re good to go. What do you think of my partywear look?
