3 Cute and Easy Workout Hairstyles Perfect for Hot Weather
If you’re looking for workout hairstyles, follow along with my tutorial to learn 3 different options.
These cute gym hairstyles are actually perfect for any occasion when you just want to get your hair out of your face. Let’s begin!
Tools and materials:
- Stretchy hair tie
- Clear elastics
- Hair brush
- Smoothing cream
- Bobby pins
Workout hairstyle 1: Braided low bun
1. Make a loop
If your hair is frizzy, use smoothing cream. Part your hair whichever way you prefer.
Pull your hair into a low ponytail with a stretchy hair tie.
On the last round, pull the ponytail over a small, firm bun.
2. Make 2 braids and combine them
Split the ends into 2 tails.
With 1 section, make a regular, 3 strand braid all the way down.
Secure the end of the braid with a clear elastic and then add volume by pinching and pulling.
Repeat on the other side and tie the ends of both braids together with the same elastic.
3. Twist the braids and wrap the bun
Next, stick your hand through the opening and twist the braids.
Pull the opening over the bun.
Pull the ends of the braids at the bottom to tighten them.
Roll up those small tails underneath the bun and use a bobby pin or 2 to secure them.
That’s it! This is one of my favorite, simple hairstyles.
Workout hairstyle 2: Dutch braided high bun
1. Make a center part
Part your hair down the middle. You can use a bobby pin to help.
2. Prep for the first Dutch braid
Tie off one of the sections with a hair tie to get it out of the way.
On the loose side, make another part to create a new section of hair.
Flip that section over to the other side and use a hair tie to temporarily secure the section that’s down.
3. Make the first Dutch braid
Split the hair into 3 equal sections.
Next, take 1 of the outside sections and cross it underneath the middle.
Now, take the opposite outside section and cross it under the middle.
Grab a small amount of hair next to the first outside section and add it in with that hair.
Make sure it’s smooth and then cross it under the middle section again.
Do the same thing on the opposite side.
Continue this process and once you run out of hair to add in, keep going with a three-strand braid.
4. Make a 2nd Dutch braid
Repeat the entire process on the other side. Here are the results:
Tie the ends into a high ponytail. You can leave it like this:
Or continue to the next step to make a bun.
5. Split and twist the ends, then cross
Split the ponytail into 2 equal sections and twist them around your fingers.
Then cross them to the opposite sides.
Cross the tails in the back, below the root of the ponytail.
Continue to twist down the length of the tails to maintain the twist.
Keep crossing the twisted sections in front and behind the bun until you reach the ends of the tails.
Then hold the bun in place and wrap a hair tie around it.
Here’s the final result:
Workout hairstyle 3: Two-strand to three-strand pigtail braids
1. Make a 2-strand twisted braid
Part your hair down the middle. Then grab a small section of hair at the front and split it in 2.
Cross the front section over the back section.
Add hair to the front section and hold it. Then add hair to the back section.
Now take the front section and cross it over the back section.
Keep on adding in hair until there is no more left. I try to do this so that it ends at the bottom of my ear.
Make sure it’s nice and tight.
2. Finish with a 3-strand braid
Once you’ve added in all the hair, split the remaining tail into 3 sections.
You may have to move some hair around to make sure the sections are relatively equal.
You could opt for a rope braid or fishtail, but this is just a regular braid.
3. Secure and add texture
Once you reach the end, tie it off with a clear elastic and insert bobby pins into the twists.
Pinch and pull the twists for texture.
4. Repeat
Repeat on the opposite side and you’re done!

Love them all, unfortunately, I am a complete spaz, and I cannot do any of those braids. I have tried, for years. I can’t even fold a fitted sheet!
I also have a cervical spine injury, and any activity that necessitates my arms Obote shoulder height, is painful.
looks like plain old ponytails and scrunchiebuns for me. They really are pretty.
