Looking to add some glam to your wardrobe? This project is perfect for you! I’ll show you how I turned a plain pair of jeans into a fashion statement with reversible sequin fabric. By using reversible sequin fabric, I’ve added some more versatility, and fun, to my pants. This project is great for a beginner and you don’t even need a sewing machine to get it done. Want to learn how I did it? Check out my step-by-step tutorial below!

Tools and Materials

Tools and Materials:

  • Jeans
  • Sequin fabric
  • Pins
  • Fabric scissors
  • Paper (it should be big enough to be able to create your pattern on it for the jeans. If you can’t find larger paper, just tape a few pieces together.)
  • Needle
  • Thread
Distress the Jeans
Distress the Jeans

If your jeans aren’t already distressed, and you want them to be a bit less formal, take a few minutes to distress the jeans. While I’ll be covering the pants with sequin fabric, I’ll also be cutting out holes here and there to let the distressed parts of the jeans show through. If you don’t want to do that, you can skip this step.

Then I lay the jeans on top of the paper and cutting out one pant leg. This part doesn’t need to be super precise but do make sure that you cut the general shape of the leg and cut out the pocket area. Later I’ll fold the edges of the fabric over, so if it’s slightly larger than the pant leg then it’s totally fine.

Cut Out the Pattern

I repeated the process with the other pant leg.

How to Create a Pattern
Cut Out the Fabric

Next, I pinned the pattern to my sequin fabric and cut out two pieces, one for each pant leg. If you have two-toned sequins, as I do, pay attention to the direction of the sequins and cut accordingly.

Cut Out the Fabric

Then I cut out the pattern. I wasn’t too careful about cutting exactly according to the pattern because it’s always good to have a little extra just in case.

Next, I pinned the fabric to the front of the pants. Make sure that the fabric doesn’t go beyond the inseam of the jeans.

Fold the Edges

For an extra clean look, you can fold the edge of the fabric in on itself ad you pin it.

Sew

Then I hand stitched the sequin fabric to the pants. Make sure to keep the edges of the fabric folded under itself to ensure a tidy look.

Once I had sewn the sequin fabric to the pants, I was ready to cut it apart! I felt around for where the distressed parts of the jeans were and cut out the chunks of sequin fabric covering them.

Sew Down Edges

Once I had cut it out to my liking, I sewed the edges of the fabric down to make sure that none of the sequins would start falling off.
