Have you ever seen a heart rock before?

They are everywhere.

You just have to look.

Next time you go for a walk on the beach or a walk down by the lake? Look down. You'll probably come across a heart shaped rock.

Pick it up.

And make a necklace from it.

Looking for a simple, easy upscale project? Make this necklace today with the next heart rock you walk across.

1. Find a heart rock

Here's an example of a heart shaped rock. You can find them everywhere if you just look.

They come in different shapes and sizes.

You want to look for a rock that's not too heavy and thinner on the bottom so you can wrap the wire around it.

2. Find jewelry wire

Jewelry wire comes in many different shapes and sizes.

You want a wire that’s sturdy enough to support your rock, but soft enough to twist easily.

Look for a wire that’s 18 gauge and 1/2 hard.

I purchased silver wire for this project.

You can find wire like this online or at your local craft store.

3. Wrap the rock

Wrap the rock once. Then knot the ends together forming a loop. This is the base wrap for your heart. Make sure the rock is wrapped securely with a knot.

Crimp the ends of wire together to prevent any sharp ends from sticking out.

4. Continue to wrap

Keep wrapping the wire around the rock. You want to create a mismatched pattern with the wire. Wrap the bottom of the heart and the top with wire.

5. Create a loop

Cut a six-inch piece of wire, twist it for the loop at the top and twist the ends around the top wire as shown.

I crimped the top, too to prevent any loose ends.

This is the loop you'll string the leather through the top to create the necklace.

6. Cut a piece of leather

You can find leather cording like this at your local craft store. It comes in a variety of sizes and colors. You want to choose a smaller cording in a darker leather.

Cut a piece 24" long.

String the cord through the loop you've created with the wire at the top of the rock.

Knot the leather and create the necklace.

Here's the finished necklace.

It only took about 30 minutes to make. The hardest part was finding the rock.

And that was the most fun.

Isn't is amazing how something so simple as a rock heart can make a beautiful piece of jewelry or a special gift for someone.
