Create the pattern

To get started on your new loungewear pants, fold your original pair of pants in half. I used a skinny pair of jeans but a pair of tights will work as well. When you set down your pants, make sure the stretch of your material is set to the width of the pants! I used high rise jeans, but if you are using a low waisted pair, leave enough space to give yourself a new pair of gorgeous high rise loungewear pants!

Cut the pattern

Use your fabric scissors and cut around the pants. Leave about a half-inch allowance on the edges. To get that trendy, high-rise look on my new pants, I left a two-inch seam allowance at the waistband. When you reach the knee, cut to create a nice flair on the bottom half of the pants. Use your first pattern to trace a second back piece of fabric. Once your two back pieces are ready, fold your jeans the other way and repeat the steps to create two front pieces.

Comfortable loungewear

Once you have finished cutting you should end up with two fabulous front and back pieces for your new pair of comfy loungewear pants.

Sew the seams
Join the center seams

In this next step, lay your back pattern pieces one on top of the other with the right sides of the fabric facing each other. Pin the center seam that leads to the crotch and sew it together, starting from the top down to the crotch curve. Repeat this on the front pieces. If you’re having trouble sewing the stretchy material, a great tip is to adjust the tension setting on your machine.

Sew the side seams

Now that your front and back pieces are ready, place the front piece on top of the back piece, right sides facing each other. Pin the side seams and inner leg seams together and get started sewing your amazing new pair of pants! Once you’ve sewed, try them on to see if you need to take them in at any point. It’s so important that you get the perfect fit for these comfy, cute pants!

Fold at the waist
Create an elastic waistband

To get started on creating the elastic waistband, start by folding about half an inch at the top of the pants. Pin the fold in place and sew all around that top section. The pants should still be inside out for this step!

Make a second hem

To make a second hem, grab your elastic and use it to measure how big your next fold should be. Add half an inch to that for seam allowance. Pin all the way around the waistband according to your measurements.

Leave a gap

Sew your second hem around the waistband but as you come around to your starting point, leave a two-inch gap for the elastic to be inserted into.

Insert elastic

Measure the elastic around your waist and add a two-inch allowance before you cut it to size. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic and thread it through your new waistband. Once it is in, sew the two ends of the elastic together with an overlap of about an inch. Now you can sew closed the gap in your waistband!

Sew the leg hems
Hem the bottom of the pants

You are so close to your new pair of loungewear pants! Hem the bottom of your pant legs to avoid any fraying. Trust me, you’ll want these pants to last!
