The first pair of jeans I thought would be perfect for this upcycle is this wide-legged pair. I love that they fit the waist perfectly but are a bit wider around the legs. I thought these would make perfect shorts because I like having the legs of my shorts a little looser.

The longer short is definitely in right now, so I measured on myself where I wanted to cut and made a marking on the pair of jeans.

I laid the jeans flat making sure the side seams weren’t twisted. I then used a ruler to mark the line I would cut across. I always draw a diagonal line when cutting shorts because it really gives them the right fit.

It was then time to cut along my line.

I am so in love with these Bermuda shorts and how simple and easy they are to make.

The second pair of jeans I transformed had a few details I didn’t love. I felt that the flair at the bottom was too wide and I didn’t love the two-toned style. I knew they would be perfect to upcycle into shorts.

Use a marker

I measured on myself exactly where I wanted my Bermuda shorts to end and I marked that point. When measuring, make sure you feel comfortable with the length of your new shorts.

Next, I laid the jeans flat and drew a diagonal line across my marked point. You want to make sure that when you lay the jeans down, the front is lower than the back because the back has more fabric. I wanted this pair to be a little more frayed, so once I had cut off the legs, I threw them in the wash and then in the dryer.
