The Easiest Way To Make A Scrunchie (With or Without A Sewing Machine)
Scrunchies are all the rage these days. How could they not be? They're super cute, super easy to make, and save scrap fabric from being needlessly wasted.
In this tutorial, I opted to use my sewing machine, but you could just as easily use fabric glue or a simple backstitch by hand with a needle and thread.
Start with a piece of scrap fabric and cut it into a rectangle.
The standard size for a scrunchie is roughly 4 x 20 inches, but if you want more ruffles then extend the length. If you want more puffiness, increase the thickness.
Pinch the edges of the rectangle together with the wrong side of the fabric facing outwards.
Encase part of a hair tie within the folded piece of fabric.
Sew the edges together.
Continue sewing or fabric gluing until the entire length of both edges of the piece of fabric are stuck together.
Now turn the fabric right-side-out to hide the raw edges.
Almost done!
Now we just need to sew the open edges together.
And that's it!
Play around with different colors and sizes to really make this project your own.

This is for me! I stretch out of shape at least 4-5 scrunchies a year, so this is so helpful to me. My question is what type of hair tie do you put inside? Are you talking about the coated elastic hair ties that you can buy in a package of 10 or so? Thank you for this great idea!
