I love to recycle old beads buttons and bits and bobs I find in charity shops and I always feel there’s a new creation to be found in others thrown away things. I found a plain brown plastic barrette slide and some wooden flowers and thought they would sit well together in someone’s hair and be so sweet.

Hair barrette and beads

I begin by sanding the slide surface to make it more able to hold and glue the pieces together firmly. I use a mini hand held drill with carbide stone sander attachment to rough up the surface easily. Always wear protective goggles.

I mix some epoxy resin which is made for jewellery making and it come in two parts which mix together to create a strong bonding glue. There’s a few minutes working time to do the sticking before it hardens.

I Spread some of the glue onto hair barrette and some on the back of the wooden flowers.

Glue beads onto centre

I choose two small beads to be centre of the flowers to finish the look. I glue these centrally and hold for a few mins to set firm.

Hold beads in place

After some drying time the barrette is ready to wear!

I’m so pleased with this little unique hair accessory to brighten up a dreary day!
