Fleece Ear Warmer Headband Tutorial

Ohio is cold in the winter but I love to exercise outside when I can. A few years ago I got a fleece ear warmer headband and I love it because I can still wear my hair up to run or walk outside. Keeping my ears warm keeps me from getting headaches that I get when I try to run in cold weather.

I decided to make some more fleece ear warmer headbands from scraps I had leftover from other projects. Today I’m sharing the tutorial and my pattern with you.

These are super easy, quick, and inexpensive to make. The perfect project trifecta in my opinion.

Supplies Needed to Make a Fleece Ear Warmer Headband:

Step 1: Print the pdf pattern for the ear warmer headband. When printed correctly the long, straight edge should measure about 10 inches.

Step 2: Next cut out the pattern and place it on a section of fleece folded in half with the side labeled “fold” against the folded edge.

Step 3: Then you will cut out a second piece, again making sure the side labeled “fold” is against the fold.

Step 4: Pin the two pieces together and sew along the two long sides but leave the shorter sides open. Sew about 1/4 inch from edge.

Step 5: Turn the headband inside out by pulling through the smaller sides that you left open.

Step 6: Press and pin along the sides. Top stitch along the two long sides, sewing about 1/4 inch from edge.

Step 7: Fold the headband in half. Pin the open ends together. Sew along the open ends, sewing about 1/2 inch from the edge. I then pinned the seam open and sewed across it so that the little flaps would lay flat, but this is optional.

Step 8: Turn the headband right side out, so that the seam is against your head when you wear it and does not show.

And you’re done! That seems like a lot of steps, but they are all really quick and simple.

I love my new ear warmer. Perhaps I will make a few more, with some kind of embellishments- maybe some flowers, bows, or the like. If I do I’ll be sure to share them.

Do you wear fleece ear warmer headbands when it’s cold out?
