DIY facemask

Mark and cut the lining

To make this facemask you will need two pieces of cotton fabric. One for the outer fabric and one for lining. I chose to use two different colors but you can choose any fabric you like. It’s important to note that the lining fabric should be 1,2 inches longer than the outer fabric. Your outer fabric depends on the size of your mask. If small it should be 7.2 by 7.2 inches. If medium, 8.0 by 8.0 inches and, if large, 8.8 by 8.8 inches.

Use a ruler

Take a ruler and mark from the top of the lining down. To know how far down to mark, check out the size guide in the above picture. Draw a horizontal line across from your marking.

Cut across the line

Grab a pair of scissors and cut along the line on your lining fabric only.

Sew each raw edge

On each raw edge that was cut, fold over by 0.28 inches and sew.

Make markings

Create the right shape

Next, measure and mark 1.2 inches inward from the bottom corner and then from that point go to the top of the lining fabric and mark 2 inches down. Take note that these measurements are for a medium mask so if you are making a small or large, the measurements are in the above picture. Make the same markings on the other side.

Mark the center

Next, fold the top lining piece in half and mark the center.

Easy DIY facemask

Use your pen or pencil to draw a curve according to the new markings that you made.

Pin the lining

Then pin the top and bottom lining pieces to the outer square of fabric.

Cut along the curve

Take a pair of scissors and cut along the curve so that you cut both the outer and lining fabric.

Repeat for the bottom

Then fold the square over and cut following the curve along the bottom of the fabric.

Place elastics

Add elastic pieces

Cut two pieces of elastic, around 7 inches each. Fold open the bottom lining piece and place the elastic pieces in between the edges of the two lining pieces.

Facemask with filter pocket

Use clips to hold the elastic pieces in place. Then go ahead and sew all the way around.

Easy facemask

Create the 3D folds

Turn the facemask right side out and give it a nice, good press.

How to make a facemask

Fold the top of the facemask inward and press it down. Then do the same with the bottom so that the top and bottom overlap.

Use chalk

Make sure that the top of the bottom curve lines up with the fold at the top. Use chalk to trace the curve. Repeat this step for the bottom of the mask.

Sew

Head over to your sewing machine and sew along the new curved lines.
