DIY Pressed Flower Resin Quote Necklace

I have a passion for both resin jewellery making and pressed flowers, I have been making earrings for a year or so now but have had this idea about creating quirky resin necklaces in the back of my mind and I just had to finally make one (or 4).

It took some finding to locate the perfect semi-circle mold, but I finally stumbled upon the perfect one from this Etsy seller. It arrived all the way from Spain and I couldn’t wait to try it out.

What You Will Need

  • Resin Mold
  • Resin Mix
  • Small Pressed Flowers
  • Tiny Holographic Letters
  • Heat Tool
  • Silver Necklace
  • Jumprings
  • Tweezers or Pilers

The first thing to do when working with resin, is to be prepared, you don’t want to mix your resin and then spend 30 minutes faffing around sorting your quote and your flowers out while your resin sets. Work out what quote you want to use and find the letters, then snip your flowers of choice ready to add to the resin.

Mix your resin, it is a two part system, you will need equal parts of A & B for the resin to set correctly. You won’t need much for this first step, just enough to cover the bottom of your mold. I invested in some mini scales from Amazon so I can measure each component exactly. Gently, stir your resin for a few minutes and leave to sit for 5 minutes. Ensure your mold is clean, dry and free of any fluff or dust.

Pour some resin into your mould, filling only half for now. I then use a heat tool to get any air bubbles out the resin. The heat tool will make the resin more liquid and it should easily fill the whole base of the mold. you can also run a flame over the top of the resin to pop air bubbles, I use one of the fire lighters with the long nozzle. When you are happy the resin is clear enough, use tweezers to pick up your letters and place then in the resin, pushing them to the bottom, add all you letters, then you can re-arrange till you are happy with the design.

Now you can start adding the pressed flowers around your quote, filling any spaces with leaves and foliage. Once you are happy with your design, check it again for air bubbles then leave to one side overnight.

The next day your letters and flowers will be set in the resin, mix some more resin, then pour around your design until the mold is filled. Once again get the air bubbles out and leave to set for another 24 hours.

Remove the resin from the mold, be careful as the resin may still be setting and flexible. You can leave it for another day if you wish it to be fully cured or just be really careful for the next step.

Take a necklace chain, I used a silver plated sterling silver 18in chain. Hold the chain at the clasp to find the middle part of the bottom of the chain, snip the chain with scissors so you have two open ends. Add jump rings through the holes on the resin pendant, then pass the jumping though the end of one of the chains, close the ring. Repeat on the other side until you have a completed necklace.

And there you have it, a fun and quirky necklace that can be 100% personalised to you. These would make fantastic gifts. If you like this blog post but can’t be bothered to make one yourself, you can find them in my Etsy shop, just click here.
