5 Minute Crafts – Personalised Acrylic Keyrings

I have decided to start a new type of blog where I show you really quick and easy crafts to try, not everyone has the time to spend hours crafting and sometimes you just need a quick pick me up 5 minute craft session to reset and unwind. Of course, if you do have longer, you can take more time and make multiple options.

I decided to start with keyrings, I have seen these all over social media and Etsy for sale, but they really are very easy to make yourself. You can create them for birthdays, seasonal occasions or to help you organise all the keys in your household.

What You Will Need

  • Keyring Blanks
  • Faux Leather Tassells
  • Vinyl
  • Pliers
  • Cricut Maker (Optional)

How to Make

I purchased these keyring blanks from Ebay, you can pick them up in bulk. They come in 3 parts, the acrylic shape, heavy duty jump-ring, and chain with a split ring on the end. The acrylic shapes have protective covers on each side and these need removing before you use them.

I had 3 keyrings to make, a birthday gift for a Disney fan, a birthday gift for a dog lover and a Mother’s day gift. Remember if creating Disney themed crafts, you can only create for personal use and not commercial due to copyright. I started off on the Cricut design space, creating a blank to match my keyring shape, this helps to check the items you are cutting fit on the blank.

I find it easier when creating layered vinyl to change the colours of the pieces and layer them on design space, it gives you a visual reference of what your finished design will look like. When ready to cut I change the colours all back to black. If I want to cut on different colour vinyls I pop them in different corners on the mat, and drag the designs the corners where I need them. This just helps cut down on how many cutting passes you have to do.

If you don’t have an electronic paper cutter, you can easily hand cut with scissors or die cut pieces for your keyrings.

Weed your vinyl, weeding means using a pointy tool to pick the bits of vinyl you don’t need out the design, You can then use transfer tape or masking tape to help you remove the vinyl sticker from the backing and align the design over your acrylic blank before sticking down.

I had these faux leather tassels in my craft supplies, but you can easily pick them up from craft shops or Ebay, take your jump-ring and place through the acrylic blank, add the tassel then add the chain. Once all attached close the jump-ring with some pliers.

As easy as that you have some fantastic personalised keyrings, these are so easy to make when you need a quick gift and you can have fun creating numerous designs by hand or on your Cricut machine.
