The shirt dress is a versatile piece of clothing because it is very basic and you can wear it in many different looks. In this tutorial, I’m going to be showing you five different looks that I’ve thrown together with my shirt dress. I’m wearing a cream shirt dress from H&M, but yours can be a different color, length, or pattern.

How to wear a shirt dress

Outfit 1

I’m keeping it simple with the first outfit, I got rid of the sash that came with the shirt dress, and I replaced it with a black belt and some cute black high-heeled pumps. This is an easy way to dress up a basic shirt dress, and it is very appropriate for wearing to work.

Look at this winter look. I switched out the plain black belt with a snake print belt for some more va-va-voom, and I paired it with some knee-high high-heeled boots as well as some polka dot black tights to add some fun texture. I think that this looks very chic and elegant for a fall-winter look. You could also wear it without the coat.

Outfit 3

This may be my favorite look. Very on-trend for fall/winter. I’m sure that some of you have been seeing these oversized vests all over the place. It is a more loose fit, comfy look. I paired the shirt dress with the oversized vest on top and these very adorable wedge brown boots. It’s cozy, but it still looks elegant. This look is great if you don’t want to wear it cinched at the waist and you want more of a baggy, loose fit. I love this look, it’s so cute.

Outfit 4

Onto a very casual look, I finally used the sash that came with the shirt dress, and I paired it with this oversized jean jacket and some comfy slip-on white sneakers. You could also pair this with a leather jacket, and it would look really cute or a long oversized cardigan as well. This look is great for running errands, going out during the day, and still looks put together and fashionable while being comfy.

Outfit 5

I left the weirdest look for last, not that I don’t love it, but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But this is an excellent option if you want something a little bit more modest or if it’s colder outside. I’m wearing the dress here more like an oversized shirt, but I still cinched in the waist with a black belt and left the bottom half of the shirt unbuttoned to give it more volume. I’m also wearing black skinny jeans with some knee-high boots. This look would also look great with some leather leggings that would add some edge.

I hope that you found these outfits exciting and easy to incorporate into your everyday life. Comment below if you have any other ideas of ways to style a shirt dress.
