Bleach Tie Dye Jean Jacket Tutorial

Breaking: Tie dye isn’t just for your old white clothing. You can tie dye all types of materials, including denim. You can tie dye your jeans by taking away color, instead of adding it in the traditional method. In fact, bleaching a jean jacket can result in a gorgeous technicolor masterpiece like the photo above.

In fact, creating eye catching designs on your denim is easier than your thought! This tutorial will show you how to create a bleach tie dye jean jacket in with just a few household materials.

Materials for Bleach Tie Dye Jean Jacket

  • Squeeze Bottle
  • Bleach
  • Rubber bands
  • Jean Jacket
  • Gloves (optional but encouraged)

Instructions

The first step is to prepare your bleach. Fill the squeeze bottle about 1/3 full of bleach then top with water.

Wet your jean jacket and then wring out until damp, but not dripping. Wetting your garment makes the bleach spread more easily, avoiding a choppy finished design.

Place your jacket on a flat surface and prepare design as desired. I used the spiral technique. So, I pinched in the middle of my jean jacket and twisted inward. I then secured tightly with rubber bands. The tighter the rubber bands, the more jean or white space that will show in the finished product. You can view how I created my design in the video below.

Make sure you are in a well ventilated area and put on your gloves. Bleach can get very potent and irritate your skin and airway if you are not careful! Apply the bleach liberally to your jacket.

Wait about 20-30 minutes for the bleach to develop. Rinse and then wash twice to remove bleach smell.

And now you have a fabulous bleach tie dye jean jacket that is compliment worthy 🙂
