I love to recycle and upcycle old worn or broken items and this old but pretty blue floral Bone china teacup seemed to cry out for a new lease of life!

I begin by cutting the china cup and shaping the piece I would like to use as a brooch with wheeled tile nippers and also wearing safety eye goggles of course.

Cutting china teacup

The design I like is a pair of blue daisies and I carefully snip and nibble around the edges until it’s roughly the shape I desire. Then it’s a mini sander to smooth away the edges and make it come to life as a piece of jewellery.

Sand the edges

I also sand a little panel on the back of the piece in order to create a good rougher surface for glueing the brooch pin.

Sand and Rough up back

I use a two part epoxy resin for jewellery making and prepare the two blobs and mix together before daubing onto the back of the area where I just sanded.

Mix epoxy resin
Glue the back

next step is to position the brooch pin onto the glue and press down firmly to adhere and leave to dry.

Glue pin into position

Then soon this unique sweet blue vintage floral brooch is ready after an hour of drying to adorn and wear proudly! There are so many possibilities to up-cycle and create varied colourful beauties from old ceramics that it gets addictive!

Where did you get the tray to break the tea cup on?

Thanks it’s the lid of a plastic container which has come in handy!
