Make a loop on the teardrop bead

You’re going to start by putting a loop on your teardrop bead. You’re only going to have one loop on one side of it, so put the flat side of the headpin closest to the big end of the bead. Cut your wire at the top. As this is a medium loop, you’re going to want to leave a good amount on; if it were a smaller loop, then you’d cut a lot more off. Bring your round nose pliers as close as you can get to the bead, and then bend the wire at a 90-degree angle. You’re going to want a medium-sized loop so put the wire in the middle of the pliers and then curl in. To make sure your loop is closed up, take your long nose pliers, squish the loop a little and make sure there is no gap. You want your wire to be touching the other side of the wire. Go ahead and do the same for the other teardrop bead.

Assemble the earrings

Now you want to assemble. Take your wire and put one rondelle bead on it. Then put the loop of your teardrop bead on and add another rondelle bead. Bend the wire into a loop shape and then get your cord and crimp and put both ends through. Get your long nose pliers and bend the cord and crimp just a bit. Then put some superglue in there and squish it some more with the pliers. The glue will make sure that it all stays in place. Wait a bit for the glue to dry.

Add the shepherd hooks

With your jewelry cutter, cut down as far as you can so that all of the excess wire is cut off the cord and crimp. Place the earring good side up (so that the folded side is facing down), then take one of your shepherd hooks, pull out the loop using the long nose pliers, and thread it through the cord and crimp.

You’ve made one beautiful earring! Now you just need to repeat the process to make the other earring.

There are so many things that you can do with this style of earring. I made two other styles using the same technique. I love the oranges and blues in the other pairs. If you’re looking to advance in your jewelry-making skills, then I would definitely recommend making a few different pairs of earrings as I’ve done here. You’ll gain confidence and come away with a whole collection of gorgeous earrings.
