The Perfect Spring Dress: A Sewing Pattern Review

This is my very first go at the Indigo, and Tilly’s detailed instructions came through for me again! I’ve never tried sewing anything remotely close to a ruffle, so it was nice to see that it actually wasn’t as complicated as I thought it would be. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I’ve even worn anything with a frill since I was about 5 years old, so this is definitely a refreshing change of pace for my low-key wardrobe.

I made this dress in a straight size 5 based on my measurements with no adjustments made. I opted to make the dress version with the frill detailing and flounce sleeves, and I love the vintage vibes from these little details paired with the pattern of the fabric! I was tempted to add on the extra layer at the bottom from the expansion pack for the pattern, but I loved the 60’s feel of this shorter version, so I decided to leave it as-is. What makes this dress so versatile is that, because of this fabric, I can see myself wearing this with sneakers and a denim jacket in the spring, or with heels to a summer wedding (you know, once those are a thing again).

Can I also get an “AMEN!” for the fact that this easy-fit dress just slips right on over my head and I didn’t need to bother with any fiddly zips or buttons?! The only time-consuming task was creating all the baby-rolled hems and gathers for the frill details, but that was more time-consuming than challenging and was definitely worth it to me in the end!

I know that once the weather begins to thaw out a bit more, this dress is going to become an instant go-to piece for me. It’s one of those elevated everyday styles that still feel relaxed for days spent at home with my kid while looking stylish enough that I feel more put-together in my at-home wardrobe.
