Making Custom Boots for SAM SMITH
I was asked to make a custom pair of heels for Sam Smith.
The instructions were to make a bedazzled pair of boots that embodied the true beauty of Gloria the tour. Let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Leather boots
- Leather preparer
- Leather paint
- Paintbrushes
- Decals
- Acrylic finisher
- Anchor cut-outs
- Pearl
- Glue
- Needle and thread
1. Paint flame design
First, prep your boots by cleaning them and then adding a leather preparer. Then, freehand a flame design.
2. Fill in flames
Fill in the area with three layers of gold leather paint.
3. Create decal
I created a decal that says Gloria the tour, as well as the date and location of it.
4. Apply to shoes
Now apply the decal to the platform of the shoes.
5. Seal with finisher
Then, seal everything in with two layers of an acrylic finisher.
6. Cut out anchors
Cut out four large anchors - the same ones that are in Sam’s poster.
7. Attach pearl
I know that Sam often wears an anchor earring with a pearl on the end, so I had to find a way to incorporate that.
I glued a pearl charm attached to a little bit of gold to the back of the anchor.
Then, to make it super secure, I sewed it in place as well.
8. Glue panels together
Glue the front and back panels together, and you’ll be left with two giant anchor patches.
9. Attach to boots
Attach these to the back of the boots.

I hope you like the way we’ve designed the boots so far! I still have a lot more detail to add to Sam’s custom boots, so take a look at part 2.
