I’m going to show you an amazing DIY to make a denim skirt from thrifted jeans.

It’s so gratifying to take something old and turn it into something new and functional. I also love a good DIY to get my creative juices flowing.

Cut any fabric smoothly and easily with these bestseller fabric scissors that Amazon reviewers swear by!

Tools and materials:

  • Old jeans
  • Seam ripper
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
Seam ripper

1. Seam ripper

Use a seam ripper to open the seams of the inner crotch. Open the seam all the way to the waistline of the back of the jeans.

Reshaping

2. Reshaping

Fold the back of the jeans so the right sides are facing in.

Then mark and sew to cut off the fabric that made the crotch so it can sit smoothly as a skirt.

For the front of the jeans, take the crotch fabric and lay it flat, and sew it as is to the opposite side.

Touch-ups

3. Touch-ups

Close up and sew any loose hems and edges. Your skirt is finished!

You can leave it long or make it shorter if you want a mini skirt.

I love the way my skirt came out and I love that I was able to repurpose jeans that weren’t being worn. You guys need to try this with your old jeans.

Leave me a comment to let me know how it came out.
