DIY Denim Top That Completes Any Outfit
Do you want to fancy-up a plain white shirt?
This DIY denim flower top tutorial will give you a great way to use some old denim jeans, for apiece to complete any outfit.
Tools and materials:
- Old denim jeans
- Sewing needle and thread
- Small “pearl” beads
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue
1. Cut up your jeans
First, cut off the waistband of your jeans to use for straps later.
Then cut strips of denim into approximately 12” scalloped strips.
2. Make denim flowers
Hand-sew a basting stitch all along the straight edge of the scalloped strip.
Pull the basting stitch tight to gather the edge and pull the strip into a flower shape.
Hand-stitch the flower closed.
Make as many flowers as you’ll need for your top. I needed 15 flowers.
3. Make your flower top front
Line up and pin your flowers into a large triangular shape.
I had 5 flowers on the top row, then 4, then 3, 2, and 1 at the bottom point.
I had one extra flower, which I just added to the middle of my triangle.
Flip your flower triangle over and hand-sew them together on the back.
4. Make a strap
You will use the waistband from your jeans to make a strap for your top.
Measure your chest and cut the waistband in the middle to fit, maintaining the button and button hole on the ends.
Pin and sew the waistband in place on the back of your top.
Now you have a strap to hold your top in place on your body.
5. Adorn your flowers
Use a hot glue gun to attach small pearl beads to the center of your flowers.
