How to Make a Cute Sleeveless Crop Top in 3 Easy Steps
In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a sleeveless crop top, from making the sewing pattern to putting it all together. It’s very easy and stylish! The stretch fabric means it’s also really comfortable to wear. Let’s get started.
Tools and materials:
- Old crop top (for the pattern)
- 1 meter of stretch fabric (1 yard)
- ½ meter of a coordinating stretch fabric (0.5 yards)
- Fabric chalk
- Sewing pins
- Thread
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
1. Make the sleeveless crop top pattern
Fold your large piece of stretchy fabric. Lay your old crop top on the fabric, not on the fold, and trace your crop top onto the fabric adding a seam allowance. Then cut out the crop top from your fabric.
Trace out the front neckline on one piece of the crop top.
Tip: When using stretchy fabric, be careful to not make the neckline too big, because it might stretch more when you are sewing it.
Cut the neckline from the front crop top piece of fabric.
2. Sew the crop top
With right sides facing in, pin the front and back of the crop top together and sew the side seams and the shoulder seams.
3. Trim the neckline and armholes
Cut three strips of the coordinating fabric, 2 x 26 inches each. One strip will be for the neckline and two strips for the armholes.
With right sides facing, pin one strip to one armhole, lining up the raw edges.
Trim off the excess fabric and sew the strip in place along the edge. Also sew the two ends of the trim together.
Fold the trim in half to the inside of the armhole and sew it in place along the inside edge.
Repeat with the second armhole.
Attach the third strip to the neckline in the same way as you did for the armholes.

It’s really that simple! If you have joggers with trim, buy trim to match your crop top and you have a great coordinated set.
