How to Make & Sew a DIY Wrap Pants Pattern in 4 Simple Steps

Are you looking for an easy wrap pants pattern? Well, in this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make wrap pants from scratch; from quick pattern drafting to sewing the DIY wrap pants together.
Wrap pants are fun, versatile, and easy to style. They have become a total staple item in my closet and they're perfect for warmer weather. Let's get started with how to sew wrap pants!
Tools and materials:
- Fabric
- Measuring tape
- Chalk/marker
- Scissors
- Pins
- Sewing machine
1. Measure and cut the wrap pants pattern
The first step is to fold the fabric in half and then measure. I measured 40 by 36 inches on the piece of fabric. I based this measurement on the length of my legs so make sure to get the right measurement for you.
Go ahead and cut two pieces of fabric according to the measurements. I suggest using a knit polyester or cotton blend fabric.
Next, take the piece of fabric and fold it in half lengthwise.
Using a marker or piece of chalk, mark 5 by 10 inches.
Once you have the two markings, sketch a curve between them. Don’t worry if it isn’t perfect!
Grab a pair of scissors and cut along your curve. This is where the crotch seam will be sewn together. Then go ahead and repeat this on the other piece of fabric.
2. Sew the pants
Lay the two pieces, one on top of the other, and pin around the curve. This fabric doesn't really have a right side but if yours does, it should be placed right sides together. Once all your pins are in, sew along the curve.
3. Add the straps
With the leftover fabric, cut out four, 4-inch strips and fold each strip in half, lengthwise. Then sew the strips along the long, open side to create straps for the wrap pants.
Turn the pants right side out and then do the same with your straps. You can either do this by simply turning the fabric and shaking them out or if your fabric doesn't allow for that, you can use a closed safety pin to help.
With all the straps right side out, it’s time to attach them. Pin each strap to the outer side of your pants, on the inside.
4. How to wear the wrap pants
To put on the wrap pants, hold the top around your waist and tie the two straps at the back making a knot that hangs.
Then reach from between your legs and grab the other two straps. Pull them up from the back and then wrap them around your waist towards the front. Tie these straps in any style you please!
