This is my overnight hair growth serum oiling routine that improves growth, thickness, length, and health.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you my DIY essential oil recipe and some of my best hacks for hair growth. Let’s get started!

Best castor oil!

Reap the benefits of castor oil with this bestseller castor oil that Amazon reviewers swear by!

Tools and materials:

  • Leave-in cream
  • Avocado oil
  • Fresh or dry Rosemary
  • Rosemary oil
  • Moringa powder
  • Castor oil
  • Peppermint oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Tea tree oil
  • Glass dropper bottle
Applying leave-in cream

1. Apply leave-in cream

Start with a leave-in cream. Rub a small amount between the palms and apply it from your edges to your ends.

I do this routine at least 1-2 times a week because it is quite intense.

Placing bowl over hot water

2. Place a bowl over very hot water

It’s time to oil the hair.

Start with a pot of water on the stove that is very hot but isn’t boiling.

Place a bowl over the pot, and make sure the water does not touch the bowl because it can burn or denature the oil.

Adding avocado oil to the bowl

3. Add avocado oil to the bowl

Add ¼ cup of 100% avocado oil.

Adding rosemary

4. Submerge the rosemary in oil

I’m using fresh rosemary. Rosemary goes bad fast, so the oil does not have a long shelf life.

If you want to keep this oil for longer than two weeks to a month, you’ll want to use dry rosemary instead.

Adding rosemary

Here I’m picking off the little leaves of each stem and placing them in the bowl along with the very soft stems.

Adding rosemary

Stir them in and make sure everything is nicely soaked and submerged in the oil.

Adding moringa powder

5. Add moringa powder

Moringa is a superfood and is amazing for hair growth.

If you’ve never used any of these ingredients, I suggest you try the ingredient by itself first to make sure you your hair tolerates it.

Leaving mixture to cook

6. Leave it to cook

Cook for 10 minutes.

You can tell it's done when the rosemary leaves change color. If your rosemary looks the same as when you put it in, cook until it looks denatured and the leaves get a bit soft.

Decanting mixture into jar

7. Jar

Allow the mixture to cool for 30 minutes and then decant it into a jar.

Adding castor oil into small bottle

8. Add castor oil to a small bottle

Add ⅛ cup of castor oil to a bottle.

Yes, this is a lot of oil, but every single one of these oils is amazing for hair growth and the combination of all of them makes sure you get every single benefit and effect.

Adding peppermint oil

9. Add peppermint oil to the bottle

Put 10 drops of castor oil in the bottle.

Adding tea tree oil

10. Add tea tree oil to the bottle

Add 10 drops of tea tree oil. My tea tree oil has Vitamin E oil in it which is a preservative effect and will help extend the life of the fresh rosemary oil we made.

Adding rosemary oil

11. Add rosemary essential oil to the bottle

Add 10 drops of rosemary essential oil.

The benefits of the essential oil and the extract directly from the dry or fresh leaves are different, so I like to maximize both.

Adding lavender essential oil

12. Add lavender essential oil

Add 10 drops of rosemary essential oil.

Adding oil mixture to jar

13. Add the previous oil into the jar

Add the moringa and rosemary-infused oil into the oil mix in the jar.

Combining the oils

14. Combine the oils

There will be a clear separation between the two oils. You can fix this by warming it in a bowl of warm water or shaking it.

Applying oil mixture

15. Apply the oil mixture to your roots

For application, I apply it on my roots only and rub it in, focusing the oil on my scalp.

Then, I put some oil on my fingertips and applied it around the perimeter of my hairline, starting from the edges to the back of my braids.

Don’t forget the back of your neck, because a lot of people neglect that area and experience dryness, tangles, and breakage.

Massaging the scalp

16. Massage your scalp

Massage the oil into your scalp. This improves the efficacy of every oil you use.

You’ll know when you massage your scalp enough because it starts to tingle. The essential oils leave a tingling sensation on your scalp, which also promotes blood flow to the area.

Applying oil to ends

17. Apply oil to your ends

Apply the leftover oil on your hands to your ends.

If you’re not going to be washing your hair in the next three days, avoid putting oil on your hair shaft because it can block moisture.

Going under heat

18. Go under heat

To add more efficacy to your oils and allow them to penetrate your roots and hair shaft, go under heat with a plastic cap or plastic bag for 10 minutes max.
