Easy, Sew-Along Loungewear Shorts
Ahh, loungewear! Just the sound of that sounds comfy, right? Who doesn't love a good, comfy pair of loungewear shorts that are both comfortable and look fab on your body? Loungewear shorts are super simple to sew and I will be showing you how you can do it yourself. I also have found an easy, beginner sew-along pattern that any sewing enthusiast can follow. Let’s start sewing these basic loungewear shorts!
Tools and materials:
- Pattern
- Safety Pin
- 1 inch wide elastic
- Pins
- Stretch needle
- Matching thread
- Measuring tape
- Fabric
Get everything ready
Get your pattern ready and all your materials required. You can find the easy, sew-along loungewear shorts pattern here. Cut the fabric according to the pattern’s instructions. So that you have the front and back sections ready to be assembled.
Pin the sections at the inside leg
Here’s the fun part! Place the back section onto the front section with the right sides facing. Pin the sections together at the inside leg seam, making sure you pull the crotch part out. Also, pin the side seams accordingly.
Once everything is pinned in place, sew the seams. Repeat these steps with the other front and back sections.
Pin from front to back
Take one of your sewn pieces and turn it so that the right sides are facing out. Then, take the other piece and insert it through the leg opening of the opposite section. Then, pin the section together throughout the center seams. The back sections have notches, make sure to match these so you have the correct pieces together.
Pin the entire seam from the front to the back, as shown.
Stitch the sections together.
Make a top fold
Fold the top end down at 1 ¼ inches. I suggest to press the fold before you pin it, so that it stays neatly in place. Pin a casing at the raw edges and leave a gap at the center front so that you can insert your elastic in the next step.
Stitch the casing and leave the gap open.
Insert the elastic
Cut your elastic to the length recommended in the pattern’s instructions. With a safety pin attached to one end of the elastic, begin feeding the elastic through the casing.
Overlap the ends of the elastic and pin together. Also, check that the elastic is not twisting inside the casing. Better safe than sorry! Once you verify that everything is in place, stitch the elastic together and stitch the gap, too.
Pin and sew the hem
With your loungewear shorts still turned inside out, measure 3 ¼ of an inch and fold the hem. Press the hem before you pin it in place all around each leghole.
And, the last step- stitch the hems!
How easy was that? Now you have the perfect pair of loungewear shorts to just… lounge around in! It’s also great for a casual look when going outdoors; to the beach or park. They are also great to throw on when coming back from work.
Enjoyed the project?
