Draft Your Own PJ Pants Pattern
There are lots of great PJ pants patterns available online and while most of these will give you lots of options (like my own Evening Primrose pajama pants pattern, with plenty of sizes, three lengths, optional pockets and elastic or drawstring waistband), sometimes it's just as easy to draft your own super simple pattern.
All you need to do it is a pair of pants that fits you well that you can trace around!
Here's what you need:
- a pair of pants that fit well, with an elastic waistband
- paper that is large enough to spread the pants out on. Otherwise you can tape smaller pieces together or use newspaper.
- a ruler. A quilter’s ruler is really useful because you can easily line it up with the traced lines.
- a pencil
Watch this video for the full details on how to correctly trace around the pants to get both front and back pieces just right!
You'll want to pay particular attention to the waistband and crotch curves. Because the waistband has elastic, it will scrunch up. You need to stretch it out while holding it in place to get the pattern traced out correctly.
Cut out the pattern and you're ready to sew! Why not check out my super-clear tutorial on how to sew pajama pants? https://www.cucicucicoo.com/2021/02/how-to-sew-pajama-pants-tutorial/
