Quick and Easy Upcycled T-shirt Dress Tutorial
Here are a few fun ways to turn an old tank top into an upcycled t-shirt dress.
All styles are completely no-sew, which is all the motivation you’ll need to get started!
Tools and materials:
- T-shirt to upcycle
- Marker
- Fabric scissors
1. Mark
While wearing the tank top, use a marker to draw a straight line across the top, directly under the neckline.
2. Cut the front
Use fabric scissors to cut out from the straps until the line, as seen in the image below.
Make sure you leave some of the strap material though!
3. Cut the back
Flip the shirt over and cut parallel to the line you cut in the front, then cut by the sleeve holes.
Again, be sure to leave the straps intact by cutting next to the seam.
Now that you have a clear view of the new neckline, perfect any crooked areas for a smooth finish.
Let's move onto styling ideas!
Style 1: Criss cross
Wear your upcycled dress with the straps crossed in the front for this stylish look:
Style 2: Asymmetrical
For a playful take on the spaghetti strap dress, wear one strap as usual but cross the other strap to the same side.
Style 3: Single diagonal
For this look, wear one strap around your chest so that it blends with the neckline while placing the other strap diagonally to the opposite shoulder.
Style 4: Classic spaghetti straps
Wear the dress as usual for this classic look, giving a nod to the 90’s.
