Do you ever need a pretty, lightweight bag to match an outfit in a hurry?

If you have a selection of large, square scarves you’ll never have to worry. You can turn one of them into a lightweight tote bag super quickly.

Tools and materials:

  • Large square scarf
  • Cord or chain
Tying knot

1. Knot the corners

Tie a knot in all four corners of the bag, leaving a tail of about 6 inches on each.

Making handles

2. Make the handles

Take the tails of two corners next to each other and tie them firmly together.

Tying knot

Make sure to use a reef knot rather than a slip knot.

Making handles

Tie the remaining two corners together in the same way. You should now have a bag shape.

You can use the bag as it is, but for a bit of extra oomph and to wear it as a shoulder bag:

Adding chain

3. Add cord handle

Slide a doubled cord or strong chain through both handles.

Adding chain

Loop the ends together for extra strength.

Just be sure to keep it close to your body because there’s no top fastening!

Now you can have a bag to match every outfit without any sewing at all.
