I got a gel manicure about two weeks ago, and my nails have already grown quite a bit. It’s starting to look...less than ideal. But, I have a solution! If your nails grow too fast for gel, I'm going to share with you my secret hack.

A new manicure takes time and money, and sometimes I want to wait to have my nails done again, but I also don’t want to walk around with my grown-out nails showing below my manicure. Luckily, a friend of mine showed me a great trick that can extend the life of a manicure, and it looks super cute, too.

Tools and materials:

  • Glitter nail polish

This is what my gel manicure looks like right now. My nails have grown out and you can see the new growth, which is less than ideal.

Glitter nail polish

1. Choose a glitter polish

This trick requires glitter nail polish. It doesn’t matter what color, as long as it looks good with the color of your manicure. My manicure is red, and I like contrasting colors, so I chose a silver glitter polish to fix up my manicure.

Applying glitter nail polish to nail growth

2. Apply polish to nail growth

I applied the glitter polish on the areas below my manicure where my nails were exposed, creating a beautiful jewel-encrusted look. I let the nails on the first hand dry completely before applying the glitter on the second hand.

Once I finished applying polish to the second hand and letting it dry, my look was complete. The glitter hides the nail growth in a way that plain nail polish can't, yet it looks 100% intentional.

What to do when gel nails grow out

And that’s it! I’ve just extended the wear of my gel manicure by at least a week. I really love this look. It’s interesting, it’s unique, it’s elegant, and so incredibly simple. I know I’ll be using this hack to get the most out of my gel manicure many times.

Do you like my trick for what to do when gel nails grow out? Will you be giving this idea a try? I’d love to see what colors you choose to extend the life of your manicure.

It’s a cute idea but I’m not sure if you were doing it too quickly but it wasn’t a nice look around your cuticles . I guess as long as you have enough time it probably would turn out nicer

I only go once a month. I get a french manicure or a color that I have in my arsenal at home. When getting the french manicure make your white band thick. After about 2 weeks or a little over I file the ridge that has grown out near the cuticle with my Dremel tool. I then fill in with the appropriate color or clear and put coat of Sally Hanson Gel Top Coat on the whole nail. Works every time.
