In this tutorial, I’m going to show you my skin prep routine before I apply foundation.

Foundation needs to sit on a good foundation so here we’re going to get our faces nice and smooth and cleansed before we can start applying makeup.

Tools and materials:

  • Cleansing wipes
  • Serum
  • Makeup brush
  • Illuminator
  • Setting powder
  • Setting spray
  • Beauty blender
Skin prep

1. Clean your face

The first thing to do is clean your face really well to remove any dirt.

I like to use a cleansing facial wipe for this, but you can use water and soap or another product if you prefer.

2. Serum

Next, apply a small amount of serum to your face. I’m using a DIY serum that I made myself.

Skin prep

I like to blend the serum into my face using a makeup brush, but you can use your fingers if you prefer.

Ensure that the serum covers all of your face.

3. Illuminator

Now apply some illuminator to your cheekbones, T-zone, and chin - the high points of your face.

Then blend the illuminator in.

4. Setting powder

Next, apply setting powder to your face. This will help the foundation to last really long.

5. Setting spray

Now we’re going to set everything with a setting spray. Pat it in using your beauty blender. Do not drag it, just pat it in gently.

That's it for my skin prep before my makeup. My skin is now cleansed, smooth, and radiant and I’m ready to apply the rest of my makeup.
