Chic A-Line Skirt DIY

This gorgeous DIY A-line skirt is so easy to make and looks super-chic. This tutorial will take you step-by-step through the cutting of the fabric and construction of this lovely yet easy A-line skirt.
Tools and materials:
- Stretchy fabric
- Skirt (to trace)
- Elastic band
- Scissors
- Pins
- Measuring tape
- Safety pin
- Sewing machine
Fold fabric
Begin by folding your fabric in half, and then in half again. Use a skirt you already own as a pattern, and lay that skirt on top of your fabric.
Mark and cut
Mark your preferred length. Then, cut around the skirt, leaving a 1-inch seam allowance.
Create a waistband
Cut a strip of fabric that is equal to your waist measurement, plus 1 inch. It should be wide enough to run your elastic band through it when folded in half, plus ½ an inch.
Sew
Sew down the side seams of the skirt.
Rip the seam
On one side of the skirt, open the side seam at the top by 1½ inches.
Pin
Pin the folded waistband around the top of the skirt, right sides together. Start pinning on the side where you opened the seam.
Sew
Sew the waistband down using a zigzag stitch.
Insert the elastic band
Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic band, and insert it into the waistband. Guide the safety pin through the channel until it emerges on the other side.
Trim
Cut off any excess material from the waistband.
Pin and sew
Pin the elastic band down at the side and sew it in place.
Trim
Trim any excess material and elastic off the side.
Hem
Fold the bottom edge of the skirt over twice and sew it down to finish the hem.
And here’s the final look!
