Especially when the weather gets colder, it can become difficult to know what to wear and the focus falls on feeling cosy and comfy rather than looking polished and elegant. Read on for ways to always look chic and glamorous without sacrificing practicality and comfort.

Every fashion fan should have a cape in their wardrobe. My husband says I look like Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, I say I look like Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl.

This camel cape from Ted Baker is beautiful but doesn't necessarily suit my bodyshape, so to fix this, I added a skinny belt in a contrasting tan shade. I threaded it through so that the back of the cape was still flowing dramatically but my waist was cinched in, showing off my shape more.

When it comes to what to wear under your cape, you'll be surprised how much it goes with. I think the main rule is to wear something long-sleeved underneath, but if you disagree please feel free to prove me wrong with some lovely outfit photos!

Speaking of showing off your shape, if you have an hourglass figure, a bias-cut midi skirt is the perfect option for Autumn. You'd be surprised how warm a longer skirt keeps you. A satin skirt can be easily dressed up or down and transitions well through the seasons, wearing with boots and knitwear in Autumn/Winter and camisole tops in Summer.

You might think it's easier to stay comfortable in the warmer months but when it's hot, it can be just as hard to know what to wear as when it's cold. I find dresses are the best thing to wear when it's hot, in flowy, breathable materials like cotton. H&M and Zara are good places to go for basic summer dresses.

If you want to look glam, maxi and midi lengths are best because they make you look more dressed-up without looking too "evening".

And then of course, we have snow! When it's really cold, faux fur is a fabulous way to stay warm and look glam. Everyone wears bobble hats with little faux fur pom-poms, but how about a faux fur-trimmed cape or coat? Your outerwear is the part of your outfit people will see most so it's important to find one that's not only cosy and comfortable but also spectacular to look at.

Of course, none of these tips will work if you haven't thought about your hair, skin and nails! Find a skincare and haircare routine that works for you so that your beautiful clothes are complimented nicely.
