This skincare hack feels especially good in summer. The effect is like using an ice roller and a gua sha together. It cools, tightens and brightens your skin in a few minutes.

Tools and materials:

  • Cucumber
  • Paper towel
Slicing cucumber

1. Prepare

Cut a large cucumber in half.

Freezing cucumber

Put it in the freezer overnight.

Wrap a paper towel over the narrow end to protect your fingers.

Applying frozen cucumber to eyes

2. Puffy eyes

I love using this in the morning to reduce my puffy eyes.

Press the flat end of the cucumber against your eye socket and hold it there for a few seconds.

Applying frozen cucumber to eyes

Gently smooth it around the orbital bone and across your forehead in a circular direction a few times.

Applying frozen cucumber to lips

3. Mouth

Purse your lips and circle them with the flat end of the cucumber, to help reduce any facial swelling.

Applying frozen cucumber to face

4. Cheeks

Applying gentle pressure, move the cucumber diagonally from the sides of your nose and mouth up your cheeks to the front of your ears and your temples.

Do this several times on each side.

It helps to reduce open pores and lighten acne marks.

Glowing skin

5. Wash

Wash your face with warm water and pat it dry with a soft towel.

Exerting pressure on one's eyes can impact your heart rate---it's called the Aschner Reflex or Trigeminovagal Reflex--- wouldn't do that with any object, but especially not a frozen object. The lady in the pix has been very fortunate she hasn't landed in an ER. Do this frozen cucumber thing on your eyes at your own risk. CCRN of 31+ years here cautioning you about this.

Protect your fingers yet put this on your delicate eye areas?! This also will do nothing for pores or acne marks.
