This DIY Giant Scrunchie is Such a Statement Hair Piece
Organza fabric is really trending right now, so I thought I’d show you how to make a giant organza scrunchie for your hair. Regular hair scrunchies function much like ponytail holders. But this giant organza hair scrunchie turns a ponytail holder into a fashion statement.
So be bold, stand out, and follow along with this DIY giant scrunchie tutorial. Let's get started with how to make a giant scrunchie.
Tools and materials:
- Organza fabric
- Rubber band
- Scissors
- Sewing needle
- Thread
1. Prepare your materials
First, let's start with the giant scrunchie measurements. Cut your organza fabric to 60 x 150 centimeters (23.6 x 59 inches).
Cut your rubber band to about 8 centimeters (3.15 inches) in length.
2. Sew the length
Fold the organza fabric in half lengthwise and sew the long open edge.
3. Insert the rubber band
Now turn your fabric right sides out. Then scrunch it up from one end to the other, insert your rubber band into the fabric and then join and stitch the rubber band ends together on the outside of the fabric.
4. Sew the scrunchie closed
Pull the scrunchie out so that the rubber band is hidden on the inside. Then hand-stitch around the circumference of your scrunchie using invisible stitches or regular stitches on the inside to join the edges of the scrunchie.
DIY giant scrunchie tutorial
You can’t style this scrunchie the way you would a regular scrunchie that just holds a ponytail, because this giant organza scrunchie is far more about style than function. Only twist this twice around your ponytail to keep it big and make a statement!
I hope you give this DIY scrunchie tutorial a try and leave a comment to let me know how your giant organza scrunchie turned out. I bet you’re going to make more than one, so you have giant scrunchies to accessorize all of your outfits!
